If you’re a boxer or you aspire to become one, then you most likely train a lot, and thus your boxing gloves have to deal with lots of friction and action during their lifetime. So, what can you do in order to maintain your boxing gloves in the best possible shape?

Wipe them adequately

The idea here is that you want to wipe them inside and out with a paper towel each time you use them. The last thing you want is to have moisture in your boxing gloves, and this simple approach will rectify that problem rather quickly.

Sanitize them inside and out

What you want to do here is to use a solution made out of half water and half vinegar. This will help you sanitize the interior rather fast, and you will get rid of any potential bacteria or any other similar problems that may appear, so try to keep that in mind. Make sure that you don’t use any of the harsher cleaning sprays here, the simpler ones will be more than ok.

You need to do the same for the exterior too. The focus has to be on spraying the exterior so you can coat the gloves with a mist. Use a clean towel to remove the sweat and dirt.

Conditioning

Your boxing gloves are made out of leather, so you want to condition them. You will have to add a bit of conditioner or maybe some oil on the outside of your gloves. With help from a cloth, you will have no problem working the oil into the leather.

Drying the gloves

The cleaning process is important, but so is drying as well. You have to fold the wrist straps back and then air dry them. Air drying is the best way to do this because it will help eliminate any signs of moisture and sweat. And yes, that’s where the bacteria resides, so you have to handle that the best way you can here.

Alternatively, you can stuff the boxing gloves with some newspapers. It’s a really good drying method, and the newspapers will also end up absorbing most of that moisture too. It works great, and the best part is that you don’t have to do anything.

Blow dryers are good too, the idea here is to make sure that you use a cooler setting, as you don’t want to damage your boxing gloves. What you should avoid here is to keep them away from direct sunlight. Leather-based products won’t work great in sunlight, so you have to remember all of that.

Once you use these ideas, it will be very easy for you to clean out your boxing gloves without any problem. While it’s not a particularly hard thing to do, it does come with a huge set of challenges from time to time, and that’s certainly a thing to take into consideration. Do remember that cleaning the boxing gloves is something that you have to do each time you use them. Once you start doing that, the results can be quite impressive, and your boxing gloves will last for a very long time!
